A marathon 12-hour performance for voice and electronics.
12HOURS peels back the curtain on the classical music industry, where performers usually practise in private, sharing only the end product. Here the audience will witness the singer’s process in real time as the long duration impacts her voice, body and mind.
Exploring endurance in music, 12HOURS tests the determination of the performer and the extremities of human vocal ability.
Created by composer Catherine Kontz in collaboration with mezzo-soprano Rosie Middleton, this immersive staging utilises multispeaker state of the art sound technology, offering the free-roaming audience a chance to leave the unceasing stimuli of the modern world and engage in deep listening: testing, challenging and even surpassing their own limitations in the process.
12HOURS premieres at Rainy Days Festival Luxembourg on the 21st November 2024
There was a six-hour preview at Somerset House for Tete-a-Tete Festival in September 2024. This was reviewed in Opera Magazine.
